UPDATE: Boil water notice lifted for Clearbrook residents in Abbotsford

Nov 8, 2024 | 2:31 PM

UPDATE WEDNESDAY, NOV. 13, 4:55 P.M.: Clearbrook Waterworks District says it has terminated the boil water notice that was issued last week, in consultation with Fraser Health Authority.

In a statement from the company, Clearbrook Waterworks says it has taken the necessary steps to remedy the situation. The company says Fraser Health has confirmed through extensive sampling that there are no signs of contamination in the water supply, meaning it is safe to drink.
Residents within the Clearbrook Waterworks service area previously impacted by the boil water are asked, prior to use and to remove any contaminated water, to kindly run cold water faucets for one minute before using the water; to run drinking fountains for one minute before using the water; and flush all garden hoses by running cold water through them for one minute.
Residents should also drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45˚C (normal setting is 60˚C).
Residents who need further information are asked to contact Clearbrook Waterworks at 604-308-6161, through email at office@clearbrookwaterworks.com, visiting their website at www.clearbrookwaterworks.com, or through their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ClearbrookWaterworks.

ABBOTSFORD – Several residents in Clearbrook were given a boil water notice Friday afternoon after the City of Abbotsford expressed concerns over E. coli bacteria found in part of the area’s water supply.

Staff from the Clearbrook Waterworks District say the discovery was made Thursday and urge those living in an area roughly enclosed by Mitchell Street, Peardonville Road, Maclure Road, and Gladwin Road not to drink tap water without boiling it first.

“This notice ONLY applies to customers who receive their water from Clearbrook Waterworks District,” the district said in a statement.

They added that customers who receive their water from the Abbotsford/Mission Water and Sewer Commission are exempt from the boil order.

Residents in the affected area are advised to ensure that tap water comes to a rolling boil.

“Preferably use a kettle to reduce the risk of burns,” city officials said. “Let it cool before using.”

They also said boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing food, and cleaning dishes.
