Chilliwack council selects contractor for Chilliwack Fire Department training building project

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack councillors voted Tuesday (Nov. 5) to accept a proposal from Gerry Enns Contracting Ltd. to renovate an existing building on the Fire Training Grounds at a cost of $409,693.

The City of Chilliwack had issued a request for proposal to renovate an existing building, including exterior and interior improvements, for use by the Chilliwack Fire Department.

Three proposals were submitted ranging from the low bid of $409,693 up to $525,075 from n. Wallace & Company Ltd.

According to a city staff report authored by Eric Schulz, the project consists of the renovation of an existing building shell with a main floor area of about 2,400 square feet. The renovation will produce a fully functional fire training facility, office and storage space, meeting and kitchen space, an upper mezzanine, washrooms, a workshoip, a second floor landing and stairs, and new windows and doors. The renovation also encompasses new electrical, data, security, plumbing, heating and ventilation systems.
