CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack says nearly 200,000 cubic metres of sentiment have been extracted from the Vedder River amid confirmation that the Vedder Rotary Trail Loop and surrounding pathways have fully reopened.

In a social media post Monday, the municipality says residents will be happy to hear that all trails and parking lots are now completely open again.

The city also thanked residents for their patience as the provincial government removed sediment to improve flood protection measures.

Chilliwack received 10 times the amount of typical annual sediment in the 2021 atmospheric river events, thereby warranting the recent sediment removal. Just over 193,000 cubic metres of sediment was removed this year.
