Superstore in Mission reopens days after suspicious fire

MISSION – The Real Canadian Superstore on Lougheed Highway in Mission, which closed after a fire on Tuesday, has reopened, according to management.

In a social media post, the grocery store said it had reopened Sunday morning after addressing extensive fire damage in a couple of aisles.

“In four short days, we’ve worked around the clock to get our store open for our community, and we can’t express enough gratitude for our store colleagues and everyone involved who made this happen,” the Facebook post said.

The retailer closed after Mission Fire Rescue Service (MFRS) responded to the site to extinguish a blaze just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 22.

Close to 30 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

Despite encountering heavy smoke conditions, the building’s sprinkler system activated automatically, limiting the spread of flames and ultimately minimizing damage to the store.

Mission RCMP revealed Wednesday that they were investigating the blaze, deeming it “suspicious,” and identified a person of interest.

On Thursday, detectives said the individual came forward and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
