CHILLIWACK — Multiple Chilliwack Fire Department engines were dispatched for an apparent helicopter crash at the Chilliwack Airport Thursday morning.

According to a recording of the emergency call provided by Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, Chilliwack Fire Dept. Engines 1, 4, 1-2, and 4-2, along with Rescue 1, were dispatched at roughly 10:18 a.m. for the report of an aircraft that went into a building.

The incident happened on the grounds of JoinAir at 8409 Lockheed Place, within the premises of the Chilliwack Airport.

A helicopter was found to be on its side with yellow caution tape around it. There appeared to be visible damage to the building’s exterior.

Chilliwack Fire Dept. crews told dispatch they would leave the helicopter to be investigated by authorities.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigates aviation aircraft incidents.

Chilliwack Airport Authority told Fraser Valley Today over the phone there was damage to the JoinAir building and the helicopter was on the ground. The man who answered the administration phone line said he believed there were no injuries.

At least one B.C. Ambulance unit was dispatched, possibly two.
