Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for British Columbia’s northern coast due to a strong frontal system moving through the region.

It is warning that inland sections of the coast should expect more rainfall amounting to about 60 millimetres in Terrace and up to 100 millimetres in Kitimat.

The weather office says the ground in those regions is already near saturation and has “little ability to absorb more water.”

It says people should be aware that downpours can cause flash floods and landslides may occur in areas with steep slopes.
