Record number of voters on first day of advance voting in BC, over 12K from Fraser Valley

VICTORIA – Elections BC reported that Thursday saw the highest number of votes ever recorded for the first day of advance voting across the province.

The non-partisan office responsible for conducting the 43rd general election reported that 171,381 ballots were cast in BC on Oct. 10, surpassing the previous first-day record of 126,491 set in 2017.

In the Fraser Valley ridings, 12,283 advance votes were registered, including just over 2,100 from Fraser-Nicola.

Here are the numbers reported for the region by Elections BC on day one (Oct. 10) of advance polling:

Abbotsford-Mission 2,021

Abbotsford South 1,788

Abbotsford West 1,558

Chilliwack-Cultus Lake 1,640

Chilliwack North 1,549

Fraser-Nicola 2,122

Langley-Abbotsford 1,605

Advance polls will be open from Oct. 10 to 13, then pause for Thanksgiving.

Polling locations will reopen after the holiday for two additional days, Oct. 15 and 16.

Advance voting locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on each of those days.

However, Elections BC notes that not all advance voting locations will be open on every day of the advance polling period.

Voters can check the Elections BC website to find their nearest advance voting locations.

The general election will take place on Oct. 19.
