ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford PD unveiled its newly commissioned purple police cruiser Tuesday (Oct. 1) to coincide with the inception of Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month and the launch of the Purple Lights Nights campaign.

In a news release from AbbyPD spokesperson Constable Art Stele, police say the annual campaign works to shine a spotlight on the epidemic of intimate partner violence and honour victims of violence.

“As part of the Violence Against Women in Relationships (VAWIR) initiative, Purple Lights Nights sends a strong, collective message that intimate partner violence has no place in our community,” Stele wrote in a statement. “The colour purple, symbolizing international awareness against intimate partner violence, will be prominently featured.”

In addition to illuminating police headquarters in purple as is done every year, the Abbotsford Police Department and its Victim Services Unit will showcase its newly commissioned police cruiser wrapped in purple to further engage the community and launch important conversations about combating intimate partner violence.
