Fire at Chilliwack home temporarily displaces residents
CHILLIWACK — A fire at a Portage Avenue home in Chilliwack early Tuesday morning (Sept. 24) has temporarily displaced the occupants of the home and caused smoke damage to the residence.
According to a statement from Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson, Chilliwack firefighters were paged at just after 2:30 a.m. for the report of a fire. Engines 1, 1-2 and 4 were dispatched.
Fraser Valley Today was tipped off to the early morning fire by Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, who monitors overnight emergency scanner traffic. She shared a picture of what appears to be a fully burned box spring, positioned Tuesday morning on the front lawn of the Portage Avenue home, located southwest of Menzies Avenue, along with associated debris.
Assistant Fire Chief Wilson said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. All occupants of the home were able to safely evacuate. The home sustained some smoke damage, Wilson said.
