CHILLIWACK — As summer begins, preparations are well underway for B.C.’s largest cycling fundraiser, the Tour de Cure. Since its inception in 2009, this event has raised over $124 million for the BC Cancer Foundation, supporting advancements in BC Cancer’s research programs and world-class regional centres.

This year, participants will embark on a challenging 200-kilometer ride from Cloverdale to Hope on August 24 and 25 with an overnight stop in Chilliwack. The Tour de Cure is the largest philanthropic funder of cancer research and care in the province. The cause resonates deeply with many, as statistics show one in two British Columbians will face cancer in their lifetime. With over 30,000 new diagnoses each year, there is a critical need for continued support.

Approximately two thousand riders are set to participate this year. Among the dedicated riders will be Brian Dougherty, a Fraser Valley local, who will be riding with his team, PCL Pedallers. This will be Brian’s seventh ride. He participates in memory of his mother, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2000, never having met her grandchildren. Brian’s commitment is fueled by witnessing other friends and family members battle the disease.
