Chilliwack to celebrate Canada Day with family events

CHILLIWACK — This year’s Canada Day celebration in Chilliwack is set to offer a plethora of family-friendly activities at Exhibition Field, promising a day packed with fun, food, and entertainment for all ages.

Daytime activities kick off with free skating sessions at two locations. The Chilliwack Coliseum will open its doors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with skate rentals available. Meanwhile, the Sardis Sports Complex offers a session from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., where skate rentals are available for $5.

Swimming enthusiasts can enjoy free swims at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre and Cheam Leisure Centre from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Movie lovers can head to Cottonwood 4 Cinemas for free family-friendly movies from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The movies are on a first-come, first-served basis, so early arrival is recommended. Check with Cottonwood 4 Cinemas for specific showtimes.

For those seeking a hearty start to the day, the Sardis Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be held at Evergreen Hall at 9291 Corbould Street, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Breakfast is $5 per person.

The Chilliwack Museum will offer free admission from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can explore the Refuge Canada Exhibition, providing a unique cultural experience.

The evening activities at Exhibition Field commence at 5 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating on the turf, with additional seating available in the stands. The entertainment lineup includes performances by Jazz Bandits, Claim Jumpers, Retrobot, and Fleetwood Magic who are billed as Canada’s authentic Fleetwood Mac tribute show.

Rather than fireworks, the night will be capped with a spectacular drone show. The festivities will run until 10:30 p.m.
