FRASER VALLEY — Saturday, June 8 was a day to remember for Harman Bhangu.

On the same day that he won the right to represent the Conservative Party of B.C. in the Abbotsford-Langley riding ahead of this year’s provincial election day, it would have also been his dad’s birthday.

Fittingly, Bhangu paid tribute to his dad first and foremost after being acclaimed.

“Today would have been my Dad’s Birthday! Happy Heavenly Birthday, Dad! This one’s for you!” Bhangu wrote on X/Twitter Saturday night, June 8 at 9:17 p.m.

According to a biography of him on the B.C. Conservative Party website, Bhangu was born at Surrey Memorial Hospital and lives in the Fraser Valley. He works as an aggregate hauler in the heavy-load trucking industry, meaning he handles operations and bids for contracts and assumes a vital role in construction infrastructure and amenities that benefit the community.

“Harman Bhangu is honoured to be a first-generation Canadian, born at Surrey Memorial Hospital to an immigrant family that sacrificed their past lives for the liberty and freedoms of our great nation,” his online biography states. “Langley is Harman’s home, and he is deeply committed to understanding and addressing the unique issues and needs of its residents while advocating for common sense in British Columbia.”

Bhangu describes himself as a lifelong sports enthusiast who not only learned invaluable lessons on the pitch, but also committed hundreds of hours by being a player and a coach for minor league football coach. He says the principles of sports have taught him the importance of teamwork, a principle he plans to apply in his commitment to serving the constituents of Langley-Abbotsford if elected.

“Harman is determined to work collaboratively to address the needs of his constituents and help his community thrive,” his bio stated.

On the critical issues of health care, Bhangu says he has experienced first-hand the difficulty of accessing health care when he needed it most.

“Harman understands the difficulties of accessing healthcare, having experienced these challenges within his own family. Fixing the gaps in the healthcare system is a top priority for him,” his bio noted.

During a rally this past Friday in Chilliwack, B.C. Conservative Party Leader John Rustad called for an end to the carbon tax, saying the elimination of the tax would deposit $3.5 billion back into the pockets of B.C. taxpayers. It’s a common theme among B.C. Conservative candidates to talk affordability when B.C. has become one of the most expensive provinces to live in and raise a family.

“Additionally, he believes that filling up a tank of gas shouldn’t require taking out a loan. Canadian energy, the backbone of our nation, should be attainable and affordable for the average Canadian,” the B.C. Conservative website stated.

Bhangu is married to his wife, Courtney, and has two young children. As a father, Bhangu says he understands the pressures faced by young families and says he’ll strive to reduce burdens if elected as an MLA.

“Harman Bhangu is fighting to become your next Conservative Party of British Columbia MLA in Langley-Abbotsford, dedicated to bringing practical solutions and genuine representation to his community,” his candidate profile concluded.
