CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack is reminding residents of the importance of planning ahead to be prepared for an emergency. In a social media post, the City says there are three key steps to take to be prepared for the unexpected – make a plan, get a kit, and be informed.

The city website offers a series of tips to help residents take the necessary steps to be prepared in times of a crisis. It says knowing the risks such as flooding, heat and earthquakes can help you and your family prepare.

It encourages families to make a plan. The plan should include even the smallest details, such as the location of exits from your home. But it also suggests identifying two meeting locations, one outside your home and another outside your neighbourhood. Your plan should also include any pets you may have.

Every home should have an emergency kit packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice. The kit should include a three-day supply of water, canned food or energy bars, a flashlight, a radio, and a First-Aid Kit.
