CHILLIWACK — After last year’s inaugural event that resonated with several hundreds of attendees, organizers behind the 2024 Rotary Climate Fair are touting this year’s fair as an opportunity to once again inspire and educate people to make choices for a better future.

The 2024 Rotary Climate Fair runs this Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14 in Chilliwack, featuring over 60 vendors and community groups whose shared goal is to exhibit solutions to what they and others commonly refer to as the climate crisis.

Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove is one of multiple speakers set to take the stage this weekend.

“The trade show allows attendees to learn about the technology and programs that are available; the job fair gives youth, and those ready for a change, information about the exciting careers available in the sustainability and alternative energy fields; and the presentations will educate and inspire us all to start making a shift towards a better future for the climate.” said Robyn Curtis, chair of Rotary Chilliwack’s Climate Change Action group.

Attendees can expect to see and experience the latest in-home building solutions, transportation, government grants, innovative job opportunities, health, service groups and more.

The diverse lineup of speakers covers critical topics such as the impact of BC’s 2023 fire season, the intersection of fashion and sustainability, the multifaceted world of sustainable agriculture and innovative building strategies to meet energy and carbon codes.

Participants can hear extensive discussions on global health challenges, the repercussions of fracking, the power of plant-based diets and the specific climate challenges facing Uganda. This fair is your opportunity to find out from trusted sources.

Tim Cooper, UFV professor emeritus of physics and climate change advisory group member, says, “Some people assume climate change will not affect them. However, if they eat food, they will be profoundly affected. Many also assume it will cost money to stop using fossil fuels, which is not the case. Heat pumps and EVs are cheaper overall to buy and operate than fossil alternatives, as folks can learn at the fair.”

The free two-day event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 13 at the Chilliwack Landing Sport Centre, 45530 Spadina Avenue, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 14.
