Dazzling lights illuminate First Avenue for month-long celebration in Mission

MISSION — First Avenue in downtown Mission is set to shine thanks to a month-long self-directed outdoor light display. The lights, initially unveiled during last year’s Shine Bright Mission event, will illuminate the well-known street nightly until March 31. At dusk each night, the lights will be turned on to show off the warmth, charm and character of the area.

Although this year won’t feature the large-scale Shine Bright Mission event, residents and visitors are invited to explore the light displays. Over 7,000 people attended the outdoor street party last year. “It is wonderful to see the lights up again on First Avenue,” said Mayor Paul Horn.

Local businesses along First Avenue are contributing to the festive atmosphere with specially crafted Shine Bright offerings, ensuring there’s plenty to see and do in the area. “These lights are an invitation to visit our downtown and to enjoy our welcoming and warm community,” said Horn.

The four-foot custom light displays, representing different facets of Mission, were developed in collaboration with community groups. From depictions of the mountains to symbols of Mission Raceway Park, the railway bridge, local First Nations, and the Sikh temple, the lights showcase the diverse heritage and special locations that make Mission unique.
