Chilliwack city councillor salaries increase 5.1% in 2022
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack city councillors were compensated a base salary of $46,165.19 for their time and services in 2022, an increase of about 5.1 per cent over their base salaries of $43,898.67 in 2021.
That’s according to the Schedule of Remuneration and Expenses for Elected Officials document for the year ending December 31, 2022, released by the City of Chilliwack on its website this past Friday.
Five councillors received the full base salary of $46,165.19 in 2022, including Councillors Chris Kloot, Bud Mercer, Harv Westeringh, Jason Lum, and Jeff Shields. Councillor Nicole Read, who was elected in October, received a prorated compensation of $6,829.92, while former councillor Sue Knott received a partial year’s compensation of $39,335.27. Knott elected not to run for reelection, paving the way for an open seat on city council which Read ultimately won.
Five councillors, along with Mayor Ken Popove, received a mileage reimbursement of $229.84 for all of 2022. Two councillors, Nicole Read and Jeff Shields, did not receive this mileage reimbursement.
