Chilliwack Fire responds to four overnight dumpster fires
CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Fire Department responded to four dumpster fires between Sunday night and Monday morning, as the fires appear to have been deliberately started.
According to Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, who works graveyard shifts outdoors and monitors scanner traffic, Chilliwack firefighters responded to two garbage dumpsters on fire behind the old Canadian Tire on Vedder Road. This happened around 4:25 a.m. Monday morning (June 19). Engine 4 from the South Sumas Road firehall responded to the scene.
The Chilliwack Fire Department had the fires behind Canadian Tire extinguished by 4:44 a.m. Command was terminated around this time.
Prior to these two dumpster fires, a dumpster at Young Road and Fifth Avenue caught fire, while the other dumpster to burn was at the downtown A&W fast food restaurant at First Avenue and Cheam Avenue (45801 First Avenue).
