RCMP use aircraft to track Kelowna theft suspect, nab him in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — Police in Kelowna say an RCMP aircraft had no problem keeping up with a theft suspect’s speedy escape to Kamloops.
In a news release, Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cst. Mike Della-Paolera says officers were called to a home in that city on May 29 after a woman claimed an acquaintance had stolen $1,500 in cash from her. The victim said the man was fleeing on his blue Suzuki motorcycle and was likely heading back to Kamloops.
A short time later, officers in Lake Country spotted the motorcycle, which did not have a license plate, speeding along Highway 97. Mounties in marked vehicles tried to conduct a stop, but say the rider evaded them with a series of dangerous, high-speed manoeuvres.
The RCMP plane was dispatched and caught up with the suspect in Westwold, following him all the way to Kamloops.
