Heavy police presence fills Sardis neighbourhood after possible shooting
CHILLIWACK — A multitude of RCMP officers converged on a neighbourhood in Sardis south of Wells Road near Richardson Avenue and Blue Jay Avenue Thursday afternoon to investigate a shooting incident.
Chilliwack RCMP Corporal Martin Godard released a statement Thursday indicating that the RCMP responded to a report of shots fired in the 7000 block of Richardson Avenue. A man suffering from gunshot wounds was located and transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries, Corporal Godard reported.
Officers were in the area for several hours securing evidence and speaking with witnesses to obtain further information. This investigation is still in its early stages, but initial indications are that this is a targeted incident, Corporal Godard said. Officers could be seen wearing blue gloves and discussing the incident with fellow Mounties when two reporters were on scene at approximately 3:15 p.m.
