Five of of the six councillor candidates who were elected were affiliated with Achieving for Langley City.

Scott Anderson, administrator of the Langley City Crime Watch page on Facebook which has over 18,000 group members, said the election results send a strong message to the newly elected council.

“Tonight’s election results are a clear message from Langley City residents: public safety and the issues around homelessness and street disorder must be priorities,” Anderson wrote online Saturday night. “Mayor-elect Mack and the Achieving for Langley City team ran on a platform that puts public safety front and centre — more RCMP officers, stronger community safety and bylaw presence, better support for people in crisis, and a focus on restoring safety and order downtown. That is exactly the direction many in this group have been asking for.”

According to its website, Achieving for Langley said its platform was built on a simple belief that local government should address the priorities that matter most to people who reside in Langley City.

“We are committed to improving public safety, investing in the essential services and infrastructure our community relies on, keeping taxes reasonable through responsible financial management, and ensuring residents have a strong voice in the decisions that shape our city,” Achieving for Langley wrote on its website. “Every commitment in our platform is grounded in accountability, transparency, and a shared vision of achieving more for Langley City, together.”

Anderson said residents want to see results from their new council members on critical public safety matters.

To Mayor-elect Mack, Andrew Flitton, Michael Hylands, Scott Thompson, Rick Orlando, Simi Rajput, and Heather Jenkins: congratulations. Residents are ready for real progress on crime, repeat offenders, open drug use, and the homelessness and mental health challenges that have grown worse in recent years,” Anderson wrote. “We will be watching closely and are prepared to support practical steps that make our streets safer for families, businesses, and everyone who calls Langley City home. The next four years need to deliver measurable results on public safety. Thank you to everyone who voted for change.”
