CBSA to adjust operating hours at Fraser Valley border crossing

ALDERGROVE – The federal government will adjust its hours of operation at a Fraser Valley border crossing starting next month to better align with permanent year-round daylight saving time.

According to a statement, the Canada Border Services Agency says it will adjust its opening and closing times at nine land ports of entry in British Columbia to maintain alignment with hours at the neighbouring U.S. ports of entry.

One of those nine land ports of entry is the Aldergrove, B.C., border crossing. Instead of its current hours of 8 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, the new hours are now 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., seven days a week.

The CBSA says the change follows British Columbia’s decision to adopt permanent year-round daylight saving time. Since the United States will continue to change its clocks seasonally, adjusting the operating hours at the BC ports of entry in the fall and spring means alignment of service hours between Canada and the U.S. will be maintained year-round at these nine sites.

The new hours will take effect at 2:00 a.m. (Pacific Time) November 1, 2026, and will remain in place until 2:00 a.m. (Pacific Time) March 14, 2027, the CBSA said.

“These adjustments in hours of operation will allow for better coordination between Canada and the U.S., including in cases where a traveller is inadmissible and is directed to return immediately to the country they came from,” CBSA said. “It will also mean greater clarity for all travellers as to when the ports of entry are operating.”

If a port of entry is not available at the time a traveller needs to cross, travellers can use an alternate port of entry. The CBSA says it works with emergency services on both sides of the border to ensure that they can cross the border during an emergency situation.
