FRASER VALLEY – A healthcare professional, student and advocate with more than 25 years of experience in the health care sector says she’s running in this month’s provincial election from the Fraser Valley to advocate for greater affordability and stronger healthcare.

According to her biography on the BC Greens’ website, Melissa Snazell is a registered pharmacy technician who wants to see action taken on things that matter to B.C. residents, like responsible growth, environmental protection, improved affordability and making healthcare work for everyone.

Snazell is one of five candidates in the Langley-Abbotsford riding. Incumbent Harman Bhangu is running as the B.C. Conservative Party candidate, Erin Osborne will represent the NDP, Shelly Jan will represent OneBC, Alex Joehl represents the Libertarian Party, and Snazell is the Green Party of BC candidate. CentreBC does not have a candidate in the Langley-Abbotsford riding.

“I’m running to be your MLA because I believe our community deserves a strong, practical voice that listens and works for solutions,” Snazell said.

Snazell launched her career in veterinary healthcare before becoming a registered pharmacy technician. She has worked in both community and hospital pharmacy settings, gaining firsthand experience with the pressures facing healthcare workers, patients and families. Her work has emphasized compassion, accountability, attention to detail and ensuring that systems work for the stakeholders who rely on them.

In addition to her healthcare career, Snazell is completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, with a double major in applied geography and philosophy and a minor in policy studies. Her studies have centred on climate change, community resilience, environmental policy, land use and the ways government decisions shape communities.

Snazell has also researched and developed municipal policy recommendations focused on strengthening tree protection and environmental stewardship. She serves as the BC Greens’ Fraser Valley Regional Representative, advocating for local communities at the regional and provincial level.

“She believes effective representation begins with listening, asking questions and remaining accessible to the people she represents,” the BC Greens biography stated.
