Driver ticketed after truck with missing wheel blocks lane on Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge

AGASSIZ — A driver has received multiple violation tickets after a truck seemingly burped out its parts across the road and blocked a part of the Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge in the latter half of last month, according to the Agassiz RCMP’s biweekly round-up.

Between September 14 and September 27, police responded to the report of a disabled vehicle blocking the southbound bridge lane and found a truck missing a rear driver’s-side wheel – with parts scattered across the bridge.

Officers also discovered that the vehicle had the wrong licence plate and was uninsured.

When the registered owner walked nearby, the individual claimed that the actual driver had run away, although police could not identify or confirm that someone else had been driving.

Regardless, the owner received several violation tickets, such as no insurance, failing to ensure a vehicle is in safe operating condition, and displaying incorrect licence plates.

Mounties also tackled 15 property crimes during that period, including a number of stolen property calls.

One early morning at Ruby Creek Forest Service Road, RCMP responded to a report of an explosion, where witnesses said a car ran away immediately after.

Police then found a fully burning vehicle that had not been stolen at the time, but the owner reported it as such from another Lower Mainland jurisdiction shortly after.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze, and the vehicle was towed while the investigation continued.

Officers also received reports of items stolen from a parked car on Fooks Road and from a parked travel trailer at a Popkum parking lot.

The following day, thieves stole the trailer and towed it away from the area in an SUV.

It was then recovered less than a week later in Agassiz, though with more items missing from inside.

An ATV and several tools were also reported stolen from a construction site by Lougheed Highway, but the owner found them “a short time later” with minor damage.

Traffic enforcement was the detachment’s primary focus during the two weeks, with speeding and impaired drivers having their vehicles impounded as a result.
