LANGLEY/ABBOTSFORD — Parties across B.C. are in a crunch to announce candidates ahead of the snap provincial elections, with new names delivered for various Abbotsford and Langley ridings this past weekend.

On Friday, October 2, the BC NDP named Holly Isaac for Langley-Walnut Grove.

Isaac has spent her life in the community she hopes to serve, working as a central bank teller and in telecommunications and the post office, along with volunteering as an executive financial assistant for a local nonprofit. She previously ran in the 2025 federal election for Langley Township-Fraser Heights.

“I’ve spent my working life listening to people who keep our communities running. I’m running with the BC NDP because workers and families need a government that listens, protects good jobs and strengthens public healthcare, especially as Donald Trump’s trade war creates more uncertainty for B.C,” Isaac said.

Langley-Abbotsford then saw two more names added the following day, as the BC Libertarians and OneBC announced Alex Joehl and Shelly Jan for their respective parties.

Joehl has run for the BC Libertarians three times, from Langley-East in 2017 and 2020 to the new Langley-Abbotsford riding in 2024, as well as with the federal Libertarians four times in Langley-Fraser Heights.

“What really drives this passion for civic engagement is the desire to be an option on the ballot for those that otherwise would have no one to identify with; to be a voice for those that aren’t being heard,” wrote the BC Libertarians.

He hopes to prioritize housing affordability, healthcare and taxation reform if elected.

Shelly Jan, a career teacher with a Master’s in Education, is looking to prioritize responsible provincial governance, school and healthcare capacity, removing SOGI 123, repealing DRIPA, and protecting farmland.

“Langley-Abbotsford deserves a strong voice who respects residents, stands up for the community, and demands accountability from the government of British Columbia,” Jan said.

She first ran in the 2020 B.C. election and was nominated to represent Langley-Abbotsford twice in 2024 before formally withdrawing just over a week before advance voting began.

The BC Libertarians also shared Jeff Monds as their contender for Abbotsford-Mission. He ran once in Maple Ridge-Mission in 2017, placing fifth out of five candidates.

Monds joins NDP’s Pam Alexis, CentreBC’s Lakhwinder Jhaj, and newcomers Virender Dass with OneBC and the BC Conservatives’ Daryl Kropp in vying for a seat in the riding.

The provincial election is set to be held on Saturday, October 24.
