New location eyed for proposed Chilliwack-area motocross park

“After 17 unforgettable years, Popkum Motor Park, will be closing its gates following the 2026 season. Due to recent changes in zoning, continuing beyond 2026 is no longer logistically viable,” Popkum Motor Park wrote on its website. “As a result, we have had to make the difficult decision to close the park. We would like to start by acknowledging the Popkum First Nations, and Chief James Murphy, for your years of support, friendship, and trust all these years. We could never thank you enough for sharing your land with us, and our riding community. Popkum will forever hold a special place in many people’s hearts.”

As for Moto Energy, it first plans to move forward with environmental assessments before any substantive plans materialize.

Before any development decisions are finalized, Moto Energy will be conducting sound testing and environmental assessments to ensure the facility can operate responsibly,” it said. “We are also committed to implementing comprehensive dust mitigation and traffic management strategies designed to minimize impacts on surrounding residents, neighbouring properties, and land users.”

The proposed site on Cheam First Nation offers even greater potential.

“The new property presents what we believe to be the strongest path forward, balancing recreational opportunities with a commitment to community well-being, environmental stewardship, and respectful land use,” Moto Energy said. “We are excited about the potential this project has to create a gathering place for riders and families while contributing positively to the greater Fraser Valley region. We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to the dedicated staff at Cheam First Nation Lands, as well as Chief and Council, for their openness, guidance, and willingness to allow us to continue exploring this opportunity. Their collaboration, professionalism, and commitment to thoughtful land stewardship have been invaluable as we evaluate the potential of this project and its long-term benefits for riders, families, local businesses, and the broader community.”

Moto Energy says it will keep the community apprised of progress updates as the motocross park planning advances.
