Mission motorist with only a foreign license gets Tesla impounded for nearly 2x the speed: RCMP

MISSION – A motorist blazing through Mission last week discovered there are consequences to both excessive speed and not having a valid B.C. driver’s license.

In a statement, Mission RCMP spokesperson Corporal Harrison Mohr says an officer with Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services Unit was monitoring traffic on Cedar Street on Tuesday afternoon, September 1. A white Tesla was observed travelling northbound due to its speed. The officer activated his laser radar and determined that the car was travelling at nearly 100 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.

Police initiated a traffic stop near 10th Avenue and determined that the driver only had a United Kingdom driver’s license. The officer later determined the driver had been living in British Columbia for two years, meaning his UK license was no longer valid.

The driver received tickets for excessive speed and no driver’s license, and his vehicle was impounded for a week.
