ABBOTSFORD — Eight hundred and fifty students and families are starting the school year with backpacks, supplies and food hampers through the Abbotsford School District’s annual Back-to-School event.

Now in its eighth year, the community initiative united local organizations, volunteers, donors and district staff to collect, organize, pack and distribute support before the first day of school.

Families received backpacks filled with essential school supplies and hampers containing dry goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and milk. They were also invited to a community barbecue hosted by the Salvation Army, offering an opportunity to gather and celebrate the new school year.

“Every student deserves to begin the school year with the tools and confidence they need to succeed,” superintendent Nathan Ngieng said. He thanked the organizations, volunteers and community members whose generosity supports families and helps students thrive.
