Chilliwack girl admitted to hospital after exposure to fentanyl smoke near supportive housing building
CHILLIWACK – An 11-year-old girl was admitted to hospital less than two weeks ago after she was exposed to drug smoke involving fentanyl while she was playing inside her fenced backyard near a supportive housing building in Chilliwack.
Her dad, Darren Jackson, told Fraser Valley Today in a phone interview that the traumatic episode happened Friday afternoon, August 21, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
His 11-year-old daughter had been playing in the family’s backyard where they have a tiny trampoline and a small pool in the neighbourhood of the new BC Housing-funded housing complex on Trethewey Avenue, operated by the Phoenix Society.
“My daughter doesn’t get out as often as she’d like, so she likes to run back and forth,” said Jackson, describing the day’s events. “She’s special needs. She splashes in a little pool. That’s the excitement of her day.”
