1 victim in hospital, 1 arrested and charged after shooting in Langley Monday night: RCMP

LANGLEY – Police in Langley are investigating a shooting Monday night that sent one victim to hospital with serious injuries, while a 40-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged.

Langley RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Zynal Sharoom says police were called to the 26900 block of 26A Avenue in Langley Monday night at approximately 7:24 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

Emergency responders from Langley RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, and the Township of Langley Fire Department attended the scene and located one individual suffering from injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital and remains in serious but stable condition, Sgt. Sharoom said.

Investigators promptly learned that the suspect had left the area in a vehicle that was subsequently observed driving erratically near 256 Street and 24 Avenue, police said.

“This prompted a dynamic police response, and with the assistance of Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Services, officers successfully disabled the suspect vehicle and took the individual into custody,” Sgt. Sharoom said.

On Tuesday, August 25, Sgt. Sharoom says 40-year-old Kyle Jensen was charged with break and enter; robbery with a firearm; two counts of possession of a firearm without a license; possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm; three counts of pointing a firearm; occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm was present; theft of a motor vehicle; flight from police; dangerous driving; unlawfully causing bodily harm; and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

At this time, investigators suspect this was an isolated incident and that there is no continuing risk to public safety. The investigation remains active, and the motive is still under investigation.

Sgt. Sharoom confirmed that Jensen is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

As they continue their investigation, police are asking anyone with information, including dash camera or residential surveillance footage from the 26900 block of 26A Avenue or the vicinity of 24 Avenue and 256 Street around the time of the incident, to contact Langley RCMP and quote file 2026-27030.
