1 person transported to hospital after vehicle tumbles down 40-metre embankment in rural Harrison: RCMP

HARRISON – Agassiz RCMP are reminding the public about the risks of excessive speed and driver inexperience after a motorist passed another vehicle at a high rate of speed before losing control and tumbling over a 40-metre embankment on a forest service road this past weekend.

Corporal Carmen Kiener says Agassiz RCMP responded to two separate single-vehicle collisions on Harrison East Forest Service Road on the same day.

The first accident occurred approximately 14 kilometres east on Harrison East Forest Service Road on Saturday, August 22. Police received information about a single-vehicle crash involving injured occupants. Officers attended and spoke with the driver, who stated he had lost control of the vehicle while driving.

One occupant sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. Witnesses advised police that they saw the vehicle overtake another vehicle at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. The vehicle subsequently lost control and went over a 40-meter embankment. Excessive speed and driver inexperience are believed to have been contributing factors in the collision.
