Chilliwack Rotary goes above and beyond, creates comfort kits for evacuees of B.C. forest fires

CHILLIWACK – Chilliwack Rotarians are living up to their service club’s motto of service above self through a generous act of kindness for those impacted by wildfires in British Columbia.

On Friday, August 14, about 50 members of the Rotary Club of Chilliwack gathered to assemble “comfort kits” for residents in British Columbia who have been traumatically displaced by the Bald Range wildfire near Summerland/Peachland, the Bradley Creek wildfire north of Okanagan Lake, and the fires around the Okanagan/Shuswap region.

Rotary Club of Chilliwack President-Elect Tara Cummings said, “The recent fires have been a terrible experience for all of British Columbia, and our hearts especially go out to the evacuees. Every little bit helps. Any donations collected that are not used for the evacuees will be donated to other good causes in our community, such as to women’s shelters.”

The Rotary Club says Cummings was instrumental in gathering the club’s members to donate items for the comfort kits, followed by subsequent efforts to assemble the kits during the regular club meeting.
