HOPE — Crews in Hope have tackled another wildfire near the community this weekend.

At around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, August 22, the Hope Fire Department responded to the blaze on Union Bar First Nation lands, on the northwest side of Thacker Mountain.

Hope firefighters discovered a rapidly growing wildfire, roughly 90 metres in diameter, and established unified command with air operations and an initial attack crew from BC Wildfire Service.

An aggressive initial attack was launched, successfully containing the fire. Hope Fire personnel worked with the agency to mop up the area.

A total of 10 Hope firefighters responded on four apparatus.

“We extend our thanks to the BC Wildfire Service crews and air operations team for their rapid response and coordinated efforts,” said Hope Fire. “With current conditions, please remain vigilant. Even a small fire can grow quickly.”

There were no injuries reported. BC Wildfire is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Crews previously responded to an out-of-control wildfire at around the same time on Friday afternoon, above Exit 170 on Flood Hope Road.
