Prolific offender arrested after being armed with a knife while following a woman: Abbotsford PD

ABBOTSFORD – Police in Abbotsford say a 32-year-old man prolific offender was arrested over the weekend after he was observed acting erratically while holding a knife and following a woman who was not known to him.

In a statement, Abbotsford PD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker says plainclothes patrol officers were conducting proactive patrols in the area of McCallum Road and Highway 1 Friday evening, August 7, when they saw the man, later identified as Byron Davies, acting strangely as he brandished a knife.

Once officers recognized the potential danger, they immediately intervened. Police say Davies initially refused repeated commands to drop the knife, requiring officers to deploy a less-lethal shotgun to gain the man’s compliance. The man subsequently relinquished the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police say Davies is a known prolific offender from another community. Davies has since been charged with uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and failing to comply with a probation order.
