CHILLIWACK – Aspiring firefighters who want to serve the Chilliwack community and take on a meaningful challenge are invited to attend a meeting tonight at City Hall.

The Chilliwack Fire Department is now accepting applications for the 2026-27 Paid On-Call Firefighter Recruit Training Program.

Paid on-call firefighters are dedicated public servants and residents of Chilliwack who respond 24/7 to emergencies of all types when paged. They’re compensated on an hourly basis for emergency responses and for attending weekly Monday night training sessions.

POC (paid on-call) firefighters do more than fight fires. Fire crews are paged for medical calls, environmental incidents, gas leaks, motor vehicle incidents, and a wide range of rescue scenarios.

“Most importantly, you’ll serve as a trusted leader and partner in safeguarding the community,” the Chilliwack Fire Department wrote in a news release. “If you’re motivated, community-minded, and physically fit, you may be an ideal candidate for this rewarding role.”

Firefighting candidates are invited to learn more about the recruiting program at an information session Tuesday night, July 14, at 6 p.m. at Chilliwack City Hall, 8550 Young Road.

If you can’t attend tonight’s meeting, apply by August 7, 2026 at chilliwack.com/POC.
