Police looking to speak to witness who may have recorded log pile arson in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK – Police in Chilliwack say they’re looking to speak to a male witness who was in the area of a log pile debris fire that was intentionally set along the Vedder River last week.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at approximately 5:40 p.m. last Tuesday, June 23, just west of Peach Park. Attending firefighters contained the fire before it spread.

RCMP officers responded to the area and gathered evidence confirming the fire was intentionally set.

A man located in the area was arrested in connection with the incident.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Carmen Kiener says investigators are seeking to identify and speak with a male witness who was in the area at the time of the fire and is believed to have captured video footage of the incident. Police believe this individual could have critical information to aid them in their investigation.

The male witness is described as: 

  • Caucasian
  • 6’0” tall
  • Provided a first name of “Roger”

Anyone who was in the area and may have captured photos or video of the incident, including the male witness, is asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 and reference file number 2026-26369.
