MAPLE RIDGE – Police in Maple Ridge are investigating a motor vehicle incident involving an e-scooter rider and a passenger sedan that sent one person to hospital with serious injuries.

Maple RCMP Mounties on patrol were dispatched Monday afternoon, June 22 at about 5 p.m., after being notified about a collision involving a child near 232 Street and 124 Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene and found a young person on the sidewalk suffering from serious injuries. Officers provided initial first aid to the youth before alerting BC EHS paramedics. The 13-year-old victim was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned that the youth was riding an e-scooter northbound in the area when it struck a grey Audi sedan that was parked along 232 Street and was attempting to pull into traffic. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police. Multiple people on scene were spoken to and officers canvassed for possible video surveillance in the area. No criminality is suspected, however, the investigation is still ongoing. Of note, the youth was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
