Chilliwack resident seeks justice for her nephew who died while in custody in Vancouver
VANCOUVER – Chilliwack resident Jenni Mcgrew is mourning the passing of her nephew who died earlier this week while in custody in Vancouver, and hopes an investigation into his death will be handled with transparency and integrity.
Preliminary information provided by the Vancouver PD states that around 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, a man was arrested and lodged into cells at the Vancouver Jail. The next morning, police say staff at the VPD Jail located the man unconscious at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 15. BC Emergency Health Services personnel were called immediately and attended. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased by EHS personnel. The VPD has since notified the Independent Investigations Office, which has now taken over the investigation.
Mcgrew hopes the independent investigation will reveal any important details leading up to the death of Chase Short, her nephew.
