ALDERGROVE – Police in Abbotsford attended an Aldergrove home Monday to help apprehend a 37-year-old prolific offender who allegedly struck a police car a week ago during a traffic stop in Abbotsford.

AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker told Fraser Valley Today that last Monday morning, May 25, AbbyPD officers observed a man operating a vehicle displaying stolen license plates. Naturally, police followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in an effort to arrest the male. During the attempted traffic stop, the man reversed into a police vehicle and fled the scene. Sgt. Walker says no pursuit was initiated, as officers had already confirmed the suspect’s identity. The police vehicle sustained minor damage.

Earlier today (Monday, June 1), officers attended the man’s residence in the 3200 block of 273 Street to arrest him. Additional resources were deployed to help ensure the arrest was carried out safely. An Air 1 helicopter and the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service also assisted in the operation. After a short time, the man was arrested without incident.

Police are recommending charges of assaulting a peace officer, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, driving while suspended, and driving while prohibited.

“This incident highlights the real risks posed by repeat offenders who engage in dangerous and unpredictable behaviour,” Sgt. Walker said. “The suspect’s actions—ramming a police vehicle and fleeing—placed officers and the public at risk. The Abbotsford Police Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable while ensuring the safety of our community and our officers. Today’s coordinated arrest demonstrates our ongoing efforts to safely apprehend individuals who pose a threat to public safety. We want to reassure the public that incidents like this are taken seriously, and our officers will continue to work diligently to prevent harm and keep our community safe.
