SURREY – Surrey Police Service says a 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged for his alleged role in an early morning shooting last month in Surrey, following an investigation by its extortion task force.

SPS Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton says Jaskaran Saroye has been charged with discharging a firearm into a place, knowing or being reckless as to whether someone was present.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, at approximately 2:52 am, SPS frontline officers responded to calls of shots fired near 94A Avenue and 127 Street in Surrey. Attending SPS officers confirmed damage to the residence. The home was occupied at the time of the shooting but no one was injured.

Surrey Police Service’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT) led the investigation. During their probe, a suspect vehicle was identified and a search warrant was obtained. SPS ExRT members executed the warrant on a residence in Surrey with the assistance of the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, and other SPS teams.

One man was arrested during the execution of the warrant and is now charged with one Criminal Code offence. Jaskaran Saroye has been remanded in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing. The next scheduled court date is Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

“This arrest and charge reflect the determined work of our officers to hold those responsible for gun violence accountable,” said Chief Constable Norm Lipinski. “Discharging a firearm into an occupied home is an extremely serious offence, and while we are thankful no one was physically harmed, incidents like this are profoundly dangerous and frightening for those affected. Our investigators will continue to pursue all individuals and networks involved in violent criminal activity.”

SPS is taking the additional step of releasing a photo of Jaskaran Saroye after determining that disclosure is necessary to assist with ongoing police investigations. SPS hopes that the public release of the image prompts additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information regarding the activities of Jaskaran Saroye. Any information provided by the public or associates can assist police in gathering information on the people and potential criminal networks involved in violent extortions.

SPS is asking anyone who has information on Jaskaran Saroye to contact SPS’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca if you wish to remain anonymous.

In September 2025, the Surrey Extortion Reward Fund of $250,000.00 was established to offer individuals with key information the ability to collect a reward if charges and convictions of those responsible for these crimes are secured.

Note – Photos will be considered for release on a case-by-case basis and based on the legal necessity to seek assistance from the public with police investigations. The disclosure of these photos in this case is a consistent use disclosure under sections 33(2)(d) and 34 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act whereby police can disclose photos of persons if the disclosure is necessary to further a police investigation into a current crime, or series of crimes, and to seek the public’s assistance for witnesses and victims who may have information.
