ABBOTSFORD – A lockdown put in place at an Abbotsford prison nearly two weeks ago has ended, but not before drugs, weapons and other contraband were seized.

According to a statement from Correctional Service Canada, federal prison staff at the Fraser Valley Institution in Abbotsford implemented a lockdown on Monday, April 20. It has since ended and the the prison has resumed its normal operations, in addition to regular visits being restored.

During the exceptional search, contraband and unauthorized items were found.  The contraband and unauthorized items seized consisted of methamphetamine, shatter, heroine, drug paraphernalia, and two stabbing weapons.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says it is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. It also also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.
