CHILLIWACK – Canada Day festivities in Chilliwack will have a new venue starting this year.

In a statement, the city announced Monday that its annual Canada Day event will move to Heritage Park on Luckakuck Way and have an earlier start time of 4 p.m. and lasting until 10:30 p.m. that evening.

The city says Canada Day festivities in Chilliwack will still have the same slate of activities featuring a pancake breakfast, museum exhibits, free skating, food trucks, live music and a drone show.

This year’s festivities will be coordinated by Total Event Co.

From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., residents can start Canada Day with a Sardis Kiwanis pancake breakfast at Evergreen Hall before enjoying activities around the city, like free skating at the Sardis Sports Complex from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., toonie swimming at the Landing Leisure Centre (10-12) or the Cheam Leisure Centre (1-3 p.m.), and a Canada Day Open House at the Chilliwack Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

After 4 p.m. on July 1, Heritage Park at 44140 Luckakuck Way will host live music and entertainment on the Save-On Foods Stage, food trucks, community booths, a vendor market and a variety of family-friendly activities, including the RE/MAX Kids Zone. To close out the evening, Clearview Demolition is sponsoring the drone show.

“Whether you’re looking to keep cool with a swim or skate or grab dinner from a food truck and watch the spectacular drone show, there’s something for everyone this Canada Day,” said Mayor Popove. “It’s a new venue for our annual event, which means new opportunities for fun and exciting offerings for everyone who attends. I look forward to seeing everyone there!”

The city says Canada Day festivities in Chilliwack are being funded by the federal government and corporate partnerships. Visit chilliwack.com/CanadaDay for more information.
