RCMP ERT surrounds Hudson Road home up on Promontory Saturday

CHILLIWACK — The RCMP Emergency Response Team investigated a home in the 46800 block of Hudson Road in Promontory Saturday morning, as police reportedly broke down a door at the home in search of an unidentified suspect.

According to multiple reports on social media from Promontory-area residents, RCMP personnel and affiliated K9 units surrounded a home on Hudson Road. The K9 units were said to be in a nearby ravine.

According to the RCMP website, members of the RCMP Emergency Response Team use tactics, specialized weapons and equipment to resolve high-risk situations. The dynamic nature of these incidents requires an integrated response, including resolving armed and barricaded persons incidents and high-risk searches and arrests.

Promontory residents reported hearing what sounded like explosions coming from the home, and advised there was a distinct smell of gas in the air as well.

According to one person on Facebook that Fraser Valley Today is not naming, the RCMP ERT broke down a door at the home and tossed a flash bang into the home. Another Promontory resident indicated the police presence involved a “high-risk takedown.”

It is not known if anyone was at home. Several people indicated on social media that a suspect was not home. However, these reports are not confirmed.

An RCMP officer at the Hudson Road and Teskey Way advised that vehicular and pedestrian foot traffic were not being allowed in and out as of 11:50 a.m. Saturday morning. The RCMP officer on scene alluded to an arrest, but could not speak further, and referred a reporter to the RCMP detachment on Airport Road in Chilliwack.

At 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, an RCMP spokesperson said he had not been made aware of any incidents involving the RCMP ERT.

“I have not been made aware of any Chilliwack RCMP incidents requiring ERT engagement. If I do hear something I will let you know,” said Sgt. Mike Sargent, who was filling in for RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Krista Vrolyk.
