Abbotsford mostly sheltered from heavy rain battering eastern Fraser Valley
ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford is keeping a close eye on the area’s surrounding waters as its neighbours suffer from washouts and potholes during the ongoing atmospheric river.
Abbotsford is predicted to receive less than 10 millimetres of rain from the event, and the City says current projections for the Nooksack River in Whatcom County, Washington, indicate levels are expected to remain in the action stage, about two feet below flood stage.
The river will then crest early this evening, March 20, before returning to seasonal levels over the next few days.
The BC River Forecast Centre previously projected that overflow from the Nooksack to the Sumas River is unlikely, but still possible. A Flood Watch is still active in the region due to the prolonged heavy rain event.
