Section of Bradner Road closing for nearly a week as part of Highway 1 upgrade project

ABBOTSFORD — A portion of Bradner Road is due for upcoming nighttime closures as part of a larger improvement project on Highway 1.

From Monday to Friday, March 2 to 6, Bradner Road at Downes Road in Abbotsford will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. as crews continue to work on widening the highway. 

“This closure is required to safely place multiple bridge girders as part of construction of the new eastbound overpass, which is being built to accommodate additional lanes on the highway,” said the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.

Traffic in both directions will be redirected to Downes Road. Motorists are also asked to follow posted speed limits and directions due to delays and single-lane alternating traffic during the day.

The Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program involves improving routes between 216th Street in Langley and Chilliwack to address congestion, support economic development, accommodate population growth and improve safety in the area.
