Chilliwack Hospice Society to host month-long pet death grief support group
CHILLIWACK — Spring is coming next month, but it may not feel that way for pet owners who have lost their companion creature, and the Chilliwack Hospice Society is hoping to alleviate some of that grief with one of its upcoming programs.
A pet death grief support group is set to run between 6 and 8 p.m. from March 16 to April 13 at the hospice society’s office at 7112 Vedder Road.
“Sometimes, others may not recognize the death of a pet as a significant loss, leaving those who are grieving to feel isolated or dismissed,” said the agency. “This group offers a safe and caring space to share your story, express your feelings, and connect with others who understand the unique bond between people and their animals.”
The adult-only program will be facilitated by Bachelor of Social Work students Gharaza Peerzada and Cat Janzen, tackling topics such as understanding pet grief and finding meaning after it.
