Chiefs Extend Momentum with 4-1 Win

Chilliwack, B.C. – The Chiefs were back in Chilliwack on Friday evening after a successful six-point week on the road, where they scored a total of twenty-five goals between their midweek game in Langley and weekend road trip to Powell River. They looked to pick up another two points against the Surrey Eagles in their fifth matchup of the season, which was presented by Intuitive Rehab Services. Going into the game, Chilliwack was leading the season series 3-1. Two Chiefs, Edvin Nilsson and Kevin Perreault, made their home ice debut Friday night, after joining the team last week. 

 

At 14:41 in the first period, Surrey’s Easton Jacobs opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Kole Keen. The Eagles’ goalie, Brady Smith, stood strong in the first and kept Chilliwack off the board, saving all 15 of their shots. Both teams managed to stay out of the box all period, and the score was 1-0 for Surrey going into the first intermission. 

 

A tipped shot save from Surrey’s Brady Smith turned into a Koby Francis goal at 13:09 to tie the game. Arjun Bawa and Adam Boatter picked up the assists on Francis’goal. Chilliwack took the lead at 17:48 with a goal by Markuss Sieradzkis after he put home the rebound of a back-door attempt from Jack Plandowski. Nico Grabas picked up the secondary assists on the go-ahead goal. The second period ended with the Chiefs up 2-1 and a 12-8 shot count in Chilliwack’s favour.   

 

The Chiefs continued their scoring ways in the third period with a power play goal from Reese Shaw at 10:48. Shaw’s goal extended his point streak to twelve games. Boris Borin and Nico Grabas were credited with the assists on Shaw’s 17th goal of the season and with his assist on the Chiefs’ third goal of the game, Nico Grabas added to his league-leading points with 57. Markuss Sieradzkis solidified the Chiefs’ win with his second of the game into an empty net at 18:54 from Boris Borin and Jack Plandowski. With his assist on the empty-netter, Jack Plandowski took sole possession of the league lead in assists. The final shots were 41-20 Chilliwack in the 4-1 game. 

 

The Chiefs are back home tomorrow night for their annual First Responders Night as they take on the Coquitlam Express.
