ABBOTSFORD — A beloved family-owned farm and grocery store in Matsqui is coming back for business this spring.

Howard Wong Farms announced its return through a social media post last week, writing: “Our roots run deep. Same family. Same location. Same great quality.”

Locals initially reported that Howard Wong Jr. retired in December 2023, leaving the fruit and vegetable stand’s future uncertain.

The business has now been taken over by Brendan Wong and his wife, Tamara – the third generation of the Wong family to operate the location.

“Customers can expect the same high-quality produce and friendly customer service that have defined [our farm] for nearly five decades, along with a fresh perspective,” Tamara told Fraser Valley Today.

“We look forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces and hopefully welcoming some new ones as well!”

The couple had two daughters over the past two years and is looking forward to raising them in the store.

Howard Wong Sr. established the family farm in 1975. Visitors can find it at the same location, 5486 Riverside Street, when it reopens on March 7.
