One man in custody after homicide at local hotel on Marshall Road: Abbotsford PD

ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford are investigating a homicide following a report of a suspicious circumstance Thursday morning at a local hotel on Marshall Road.

According to a statement from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, AbbyPD officers were called to a local hotel in the 32100 block of Marshall Road at about 11:42 a.m. Thursday morning (Jan. 15). Police did not identify the hotel by name but the Alpine Motor Inn is located at 32110 Marshall Road. There’s also a Best Western Plus at 32111 Marshall Road.

On arrival, officers secured the scene and confirmed the incident was contained to a room within the hotel. Further evidence was quickly secured at which time police confirmed the incident as a homicide.

Sgt. Walker says one man has been arrested and remains in police custody pending further investigation.

Sgt. Walker says the investigation remains in its early stages, with additional resources deployed to support efforts to determine more information about the incident. Police have confirmed this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public, Sgt. Walker said.

This incident is not believed to be connected to ongoing extortions, Sgt. Walker confirmed. The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit will transition the investigation to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), which will be providing further updates as the investigation advances.

It’s the second homicide in a week in Abbotsford, after 28-year-old Navpreet Dhaliwal was gunned down in the 3200 block of Siskin on Friday, January 9 inside a residence. Dhaliwal was known to police and connected to the ongoing gang conflict in B.C.
