Mission bookstore set to close next week

MISSION — After a six-year run at its current location, a bookstore in Mission is set to close its doors by next week.

Totally BOOK-ish, located at 32555 London Avenue, announced on social media that its time at the Junction shopping centre will end this month.

Posting on behalf of the bookstore, Ami, whose last name was not revealed, said 2025 was a particularly hard year financially for many individuals, families and small businesses in the year. Ami’s business was not immune to those difficulties, sadly.

“This is the note that I never wanted to write. I’m here to tell you that our time at the Junction will be coming to an end,” Ami said. “It was a hard year for our Mission location too. We experienced a steady drop in sales, and margins became extremely tight.”

Ami said it became much clearer in December 2025 that remaining open in 2026 would be unsustainable. The company thanked its landlord for offering their support during the bookstore’s six-year run.

“We would like to thank Anthem (our Junction landlords) for their support in working with us over the last 6 years, but our lease is ending on Jan. 31, and it seems like a good time to take a break,” Ami said. “We know this is disappointing news, and might even feel devastating for some. Please know that we tried our very best, and this decision was extremely hard.”

On the upside, Totally BOOK-ish’s Abbotsford store remains open and is just a short drive away for Mission residents.

“We are so grateful that we have another Totally Book-ish location just 10 minutes away!” the company said “Our Abbotsford bookstore (top of Montrose and South Fraser Way) is warm, friendly, and nice and close, so you can still shop with us and see me (Ami), and some other familiar faces. We’ll be planning more events, more author book signings, and adding some great items to our Totally Book-ish brand.”

The company hasn’t ruled out opening at another location either.

“We don’t know what the future holds, but we do know I’m always on the lookout for the next perfect spot to open a bookstore!” Ami said. “Thank you for these 6 years of bookish love. Although we are sad to close this chapter, we are excited to open the next one.”

Its last day in Mission Friday, January 23.
