Major thoroughfare in Hope closed due to incident in the Fraser Canyon

HOPE — The District of Hope says it has implemented an emergency road closure in the town due to an incident north of Hope.

In a statement, the district says 6th Avenue at the CN Rail crossing was closed Tuesday morning due to a rail line washout in the Fraser Canyon.

The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately 24 hours. If that holds true, the road could reopen by Wednesday morning.

Drivers are asked to use alternate routes and avoid the area.

The district said the 6th Avenue crossing constitutes a major route through Hope and may impact school pick-up and regular commutes on Tuesday.
